About
Sorrento
Sorrento is the Peninsula's grandest seaside town: limestone buildings and a lively main street, a calm bay beach out front and a wild surf coast out the back.
Come for the dining and the shopping, stay for the heritage hotels, the clifftop walks and the ferry across to Queenscliff.
Featured Spot
The Main Street
Ocean Beach Road runs from the bay to the surf, lined with historic limestone buildings holding cafes, bakeries, galleries, boutiques and some of the Peninsula's finest dining. It's made for wandering: coffee in the morning, gelato after the beach, a long dinner on the hill at night.
Beaches
Sorrento has a beach for every mood. The front beach on the bay is calm and made for swimming, while the back beaches face Bass Strait: Ocean Beach is patrolled in season, and Diamond Bay and Koonya are wilder, with limestone bluffs and rock pools. The back beaches are for walking and watching the surf more than swimming, so check conditions and stay between the flags.
Eat & Drink
Ocean Beach Road is the Peninsula's dining strip, from award-winning bakeries and boutique cafes to wine bars and restaurants, with heritage hotels like Hotel Sorrento and the Continental taking dinner up a notch.
Shopping
Galleries, boutiques, homewares and giftware shops fill the limestone buildings of Ocean Beach Road, made for a slow browse between coffees.
Things to Do
Cross the bay to Queenscliff on the Searoad ferry, walk Millionaires' Walk past the clifftop mansions or the Coppins Track along the back beach cliffs, or get out on the water with the Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club or a dolphin swim from the pier.
Accommodation
From heritage hotels and hilltop resorts to boutique stays on Ocean Beach Road, motels and holiday houses, Sorrento has some of the Peninsula's best places to stay, plus foreshore camping for something simpler.
