About
Rye
Rye is a town with two coasts: calm, white-sand Port Phillip Bay on one side and the wild limestone cliffs and rock formations of Bass Strait on the other.
Stroll the pier and the shops along Point Nepean Road in the morning, then head over to the back beaches for sunset.
Featured Spot
Rye Pier & Foreshore
The heart of Rye: a 4km sweep of white sand along Port Phillip Bay, with the 300-metre pier in the middle, the foreshore reserve behind it, and the cafes, shops and Rye Hotel just across Point Nepean Road. The water is shallow and calm, and there's a 200-metre snorkel trail under the pier.
Fish off the pier, camp on the foreshore in summer, or ride the Bay Trail along the water. The beach isn't patrolled, so swim with care.
Beaches
Rye has beaches on both coasts. Rye Front Beach on the bay is calm and shallow, made for swimming and snorkelling, while the back beaches, like Number 16, are wild Bass Strait surf — beautiful to walk, but not for swimming.
Eat & Drink
Rye's main strip along Point Nepean Road has everything from the Rye Hotel's foreshore bistro to local cafes and takeaway, and the suburbs hide a few gems of their own, like the Hunter Cafe and the 16 Beach General Store.
Things to Do
Play a round at The Dunes Golf Links, climb down to Dragon Head Rock at Number 16 Beach, or walk the clifftops of the Coastal Walk and the Bay Trail along the foreshore. Peninsula Hot Springs is just up the road.
