About
Capel SOund
Capel Sound is a quiet bayside suburb, known until 2016 as Rosebud West, with a long calm beach, a busy foreshore campground and the Tootgarook wetlands just behind.
It's mostly suburbs, with a few restaurants and bars across from the foreshore and the bay never more than a short walk away.
Beaches
The Foreshore
A long, calm, shallow stretch of Port Phillip Bay, with a boardwalk through Chinamans Creek Nature Reserve to the bathing boxes. The campground runs along the sand from September to the end of May (bookings essential), with the Bay Trail beside it all the way to Rye.
Eat & Drink
A few restaurants and bars line Point Nepean Road across from the foreshore: Sound Bar for live music and cocktails, OSHO for Indian, and a small village strip near Chinamans Creek, with Rosebud and Rye close by.
Accommodation
Foreshore camping is the main stay here, with holiday houses nearby and more to choose from in Rosebud, Rye and Tootgarook.
