About
Mornington
Mornington is the Peninsula's biggest and busiest town: a seaside centre with a long Main Street that runs down to the water, a string of small beaches and bathing boxes below red cliffs, and a calendar full of markets and race days.
There's always something on, whether you're after a coastal walk, a long lunch, a gallery or a day at the races.
Events
What's On
From the Wednesday Main Street Market to the monthly racecourse market and big race days, there's always something on in Mornington.
Town Centre
Main Street
Mornington's Main Street runs from the shops down to the sea: more than a kilometre of boutiques, galleries, cafes, restaurants and historic buildings, with the Wednesday market filling the street every week. Follow it to the end and you reach Schnapper Point, the pier and the beach.
Beaches
A string of small beaches sits below the cliffs: sheltered Mothers, Scout and Shire Hall beaches, bathing-box-lined Mills Beach, and Fishermans Beach further south, all joined by the Esplanade walking track.
Cafes & Restaurants
Main Street is the heart of Mornington's dining, with a cafe or restaurant for every taste, from morning coffee and brunch to waterside seafood at the harbour, plus more tucked into the industrial estate.
Bars & Pubs
The Royal Hotel, built in 1857, is one of Mornington's oldest landmarks, with the Grand Hotel and a handful of bars adding a bit of nightlife to Main Street.
Shopping
More than a kilometre of Main Street shopping, with boutiques, galleries and homewares, plus Benton Square for the supermarket run and a big-box precinct for the hardware and electronics.
Things to Do
Visit the Regional Gallery and the Botanical Rose Gardens, ride a heritage steam train, have a flutter at the racecourse, play a round at Mornington Golf Club, or follow the Esplanade coast walk past the beaches and clifftops.
Accommodation
From the historic Royal Hotel and the Mornington Hotel to motels and holiday houses near the beach, Mornington has plenty of places to stay, many within walking distance of Main Street.
