About the town
Tyabb
Tucked back from the water behind a thick band of protected mangroves, Tyabb is a quiet rural town that trades waterfront views for wide skies and a genuinely distinctive main street. There's no pub and never has been, but there's a railway station, a handful of cafes and bakeries, and a reputation among Melburnians for antiques that punches well above its size.
Tyabb sits on Western Port, though the bay itself is mostly out of reach here, wrapped in Ramsar-listed wetlands rather than beaches. What draws people instead is the town's long-running trade in old and interesting things, and a small airfield that comes alive every two years for one of the peninsula's biggest aviation events.

Tyabb Airport
A working airfield west of town, home to the Peninsula Aero Club, which has been teaching Mornington Peninsula locals to fly for decades. It's also home base to a collection of WWII-era warbirds, including a restored ex-air-force Kittyhawk fighter, and every two years it hosts the Tyabb Airshow, drawing crowds and RAAF display teams for a weekend of vintage and modern aircraft overhead.
Things to do
From one of the largest antiques centres in the country to quiet bushland walks, Tyabb rewards a slow look. Browse the stalls, duck into a gallery, or stretch your legs along Olivers Creek.
Eat & Drink
A small-town spread of cafes and bakeries, including one that sits inside a hundred-year-old train carriage. Good coffee is never far away, even here.
